When does Xpress operate?

Xpress operates Monday through Friday, generally between 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. depending on the particular route.

What are off-peak hours?

In some cases a route may offer scheduled times after 9:00 a.m. and before 3:00 p.m. and after 6:30 p.m. These are considered off-peak hours and the one-way and roundtrip fares are half price.

What are your fares?

A single one-way ride is $3 and a roundtrip is $5 exact cash only. A 20-ride pass is $45, a 40-ride pass is $85 and a 31-Day pass is $80.

These fares are not valid on routes in Gwinnett and Cobb counties. You will need to pay Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) or Cobb Community Transit (CCT) fares to ride on Xpress routes from those counties.

Do you have a discount for riders over the age of 65 or for those with disabilities?

Persons 65 years of age or older, Medicare card holders and persons with disabilities are eligible for half-price fares on those routes operating during off-peak hours (between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and after 6:30 p.m.). You must show the driver your Medicare card to qualify for the half fare, under federal law. Riders may not receive both a half-fare discount and a Medicare discount.

Does Xpress accommodate passengers needing wheelchair assistance?

Xpress is committed to providing safe, comfortable, convenient service to all of our riders. All Xpress coaches comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and feature both a kneeling feature to lower the steps into the bus and a wheelchair lift. There are places for two wheelchairs to be secured on each coach.

Xpress will provide wheelchair accommodation provided the chair does not exceed the following dimensions: 30 inches in width, 48 inches in length and the weight of the chair, when occupied, does not exceed 600 pounds.

If you need assistance boarding the coach, or need to use the wheelchair lift, notify the driver. The operator will aid you in boarding or leaving the coach.

The wheelchair lift is located on the passenger entrance side of the bus, about 1/3rd of the way back. To use it, notify the driver, who will deploy the lift. Follow the driver's instructions and you will be assisted into the coach and your wheelchair secured for a safe ride.

What is a reverse commute?

Some Xpress coaches return to the park & ride lots in the morning to begin a new run. On these coaches passengers who live in the city may board and ride the coach to the lot, in a reverse trip compared to the suburban riders coming in to the city. (Similarly, in the afternoon, on some coaches that return to the city you may board at the park & ride lot.) When taking a reverse commute on these returning coaches, a ‘reverse commute fare’ is available at half price.

Who runs Xpress?

Xpress is managed by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), an agency of the State of Georgia. GRTA contracts with a management company to run most Xpress routes. In Cobb and Gwinnett counties, GRTA contracts with Cobb Community Transit (CCT) and Gwinnett County Transit (GCT), respectively, to operate Xpress routes from those counties. Only CCT fares are valid on those routes operated by CCT, and only GCT fares are valid on those routes operated by GCT.

Why are large coaches not available on all express routes?

Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) and Cobb Community Transit (CCT) determine which vehicles to use on their routes. Under Gwinnett County's agreement with GRTA, Gwinnett County received a number of the larger, 57-seat coaches. GCT chose to put these on its longer routes. In some cases, GCT may use their smaller local transit buses to serve the GRTA Xpress routes.

Who pays for Xpress?

Xpress fares pay for only part of the cost to operate the service. Metro counties and the State of Georgia share the additional operational costs, and the state and the federal government share the cost of the coaches and facilities.

What is the relationship between GRTA and MARTA? Do you have free transfers? Does Xpress use the Breeze Card?

GRTA (Georgia Regional Transportation Authority) and MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) are authorities of the state of Georgia. Each has a seperate board of directors. The GRTA executive director is a member of the MARTA Board of Directors.  GRTA and MARTA work closely to provide a seamless transit system throughout the region. You may transfer for free from Xpress to MARTA at MARTA stations served by Xpress and from MARTA to Xpress at those stations. Xpress passengers may use the Breeze Card to ride MARTA and XpressXpress coaches are equipped to handle the Breeze Card. Free transfers will only be available to those using the Breeze Card. You may use your Breeze Card now to ride Xpress coaches operated by Cobb Community Transit. Gwinnett County Transit will also be using the Breeze Card in 2009.
