Purpose
Xpress is a public commuter transportation service, available Monday through Friday, designed to provide work-day commuters an alternative to driving their vehicles alone to work. The service offers comfortable coaches using the region’s interstate highway network and High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. Coaches pick up commuters at suburban park & ride lots and bring them to work at major job activity centers such as Downtown and Midtown Atlanta, where they may transfer for free between transit systems and at several of MARTA’s rail stations to continue their commute if necessary. Xpress provides an easy alternative for commuters driving alone to work and helps reduce traffic congestion on Atlanta highways.
Xpress is not an all day service and does not operate on major holidays. Most of its riders choose to take Xpress to save money or avoid the frustrations of metro traffic. The service usually provides five to eight coach times in the morning (from about 5:30 to 8:00 a.m.) and about that many in the afternoon (from about 3:15 to 6:00 p.m.).
The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) launched the Xpress service in June 2004 with two routes. In five years, the service has grown to more than 28 routes with more on the way. With clean, comfortable commuter coaches and a high level of customer service, Xpress has established a truly regional transportation network in metro Atlanta.
It is the mission of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority to improve Georgia's mobility, air quality and land use practices
