6 Techniques to Live a Stress-Free Life

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays behind us, it’s important to decompress and manage your stress. Let’s make 2017 a stress-free year!

We’ve all dealt with it and we know how it affects our well-being. Stress is an inevitable part of life that can alter your day … or even your life. Learning how to cope with stress will guarantee your ability to remain healthy and happy. There are several things that can be done to effectively deal with and/or eliminate stress in your life. These techniques will help you relax your mind and your body.

Write it out. Writing is one of the best ways to ease your mind while letting out your feelings. Putting how you feel on paper puts things in perspective and allows you to find the underlying cause of your stress. Take about 10-15 minutes out of your day to reflect and debrief from the day. Keeping a journal is also helpful so that you can keep track of your stress levels and progress.

Try meditation. Meditation allows you to focus your attention on the present. It is important to incorporate a time of quietness and peace in your everyday routine. Remember to focus on your breathing while doing so. By doing this, you are allowing your mind to refocus, relax and refuel.

Let it all out. Writing is helpful when it comes to expressing your feelings, but it’s also beneficial to actually talk it all out. Whether you talk to a counselor, friend or family member; it helps to have a listening ear. Counselors are great because they do not know anything about you and they are trained to assist those who are under stress.

Have some fun. We all have certain hobbies and interests that give us the freedom to have fun. Take some time out of your week to enjoy doing the things that you love to do. Having fun will free your mind from stressful thoughts and will help you to relax.

Plan your day. One reason people are stressed is because they go through the day without an agenda to go by. When you are just winging it, you will most likely run into stressful moments. For example, planning your commute can make traveling through traffic less stressful. By utilizing services such as Xpress, you will reach your destination with ease. Since we are doing the driving for you, riding Xpress is a stress reliever in itself! Even though things do not always go as planned, having a framework for your day will alleviate a lot of stress.

Get moving. Exercise has been proven to be a great stress reliever. Sweating it out will relieve muscle tension and boost your energy levels. Being consistently active helps you sleep better and think clearer.

Incorporating these simple techniques into your daily schedule is the start to living a stress-free life!

Money Saving Tips for Big City Living

Living in a big city, such as Atlanta, can be quite costly. It seems as if everything you do requires you to spend even more money. Not to mention, your living expenses are most likely high if you live within or near the downtown area. Despite having to dish out a few dollars here and there, there are ways for you to enjoy the city life without breaking the bank.

Take advantage of freebies. Atlanta and other major cities have a load of free opportunities that are available on a regular basis. The next time you want to have some fun, research some free events or activities that are near you. Whether it is a park, a museum or a small concert, there is always something to do that does not require any cash. You do not always have to pay to enjoy yourself.

Stay in the loop on deals. Couponing and knowing what deals are available will ensure that you get all the savings that you can. Sites, like Groupon and LivingSocial, are helpful when shopping, planning outings and so much more. Who wants to pay the full price for things anyway?

Get in the kitchen. We spend a significant amount of our money on the one thing we ALL love … food. Whether you meal prep or just commit to cooking meals more often, you will find that dining in saves a ton of money. A helpful hint for dining out: if your friends want to go out to eat, suggest doing breakfast or lunch. The menu prices are lower than dinner.

Cut back on treating yourself. After a long week of work or school, it is okay to want to treat yourself to a night out, a day of shopping, etc. Instead of treating yourself often, consider doing it once or twice a month. You can even switch your idea of “treating yourself” from spending money or yourself to spending quality time with yourself. For example, you can award your hard work with a relaxing night in and pamper yourself.

Live within your means. Residing in the city typically means that your rent and other bills will be high. Living lavish may not be the best idea if you are trying to hold on to your dollars. Look into more affordable living options and even consider getting a roommate to help with the costs. Thrifting is also an excellent way to find affordable furniture, appliances, cookware, clothes and many other necessary items.

Although, city living requires you to spend a lot more money than you would in a smaller town, saving money is possible and pretty simple to do. Utilize these tips and watch your bank account grow!

It’s Can-a-thon Time!

During your morning commute the week of November 28th, a box will be placed on each Xpress bus to collect your non-perishable food donations. All of your donations will stay in the metro-Atlanta area and will be distributed through the Salvation Army.

Let’s Count on Each Other for a Safe Ride

Xpress employees provide a wealth of specialized training and experience to make sure all of our customers are safe, and we are committed every day to making safety of our passengers our top priority. Xpress riders can also make an important contribution to the security equation by providing thousands of extra eyes and ears capable of identifying suspicious, possibly life-threatening situations.

When transit employees and transit passengers partner together, the result is a highly effective first line of defense against situations that can put us all at risk.  So we are asking our riders to work together with us to ensure that everyone has a safe and comfortable travel experience on our buses.

As a customer, we ask that you please be a vigilant rider: If you see something, say something.  Make a commitment to becoming an alert, informed, prepared, and involved member of your Xpress community. If you observe an unattended package, harassing behavior, anything unusual, or suspicious activity, alert your Xpress Operator or call 911 immediately.

Rest assured, your efforts will go a long way toward enhancing the safety and security of our transit system. For questions or concerns, contact our Customer Service Team at 1-877-XPRSSGA.
